continually expands its partnerships with other global conglomerates to increase worldwide brand image while being recognized by the international community at large for its commitment to quality and innovation. Tata Group, based in Mumbai, India, operates in over 80 countries and is comprised of 114 companies and subsidiaries with a market capitalization that exceeded $100 billion in 2011. Its business interests range from communications and information technology, engineering, materials, energy, chemicals, to consumer products. Tata Global Beverages Limited recently engaged in a joint venture with Starbucks Coffee Company, creating a powerful partnership between the 2nd largest branded tea company in the world with the iconic international coffee brand. Residents and visitors alike in Delhi and Mumbai will soon be able to enjoy the premium Starbucks Experience. Mr. R K Krishnakumar, Vice Chairman of Tata Global Beverages commented that “the joint venture with Starbucks is in line with Tata Global Beverages’ strategy of growing through strategic alliances in addition to organic and inorganic growth.”
Another global giant, PepsiCo India, has embarked on a joint venture with Tata Global Beverages as well, focusing on enhancing the health of the Indian people with the introduction of nutrient rich water, simply put, healthy beverages for a healthier India. Tata Water Plus, the first and only one of its kind in India, tastes and looks the same as ordinary water but is enhanced with vitamins and minerals aimed to work towards the mitigation of nutritional gaps in the average Indian. “Tata Water Plus is not just a game-changing product but a commitment from two of the world’s most trusted companies to improve people’s quality of life,” says Manu Anand, chairman and CEO of PepsiCo India. The development of Tata Water Plus is yet another addition to Tata group’s long line of innovative products to meet consumer needs from the country’s first packaged iodised salt, to launching the people’s car, Tata Nano.
The Greater Paris Investment Agency (GPIA) recognized Tata group’s consistent innovation and awarded Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the “Prix spécial de l’innovation de Paris-Ile de France Capitale Economique 2011” (Special Innovation Prize 2011 of Paris, the economic capital of the Ile-De France region). Chiara Corazza, managing director of GPIA said “TCS and Tata Communications are prime examples of global business that have embraced the growth opportunities offered by Greater Paris. TCS with over 1000 consultants working with several CAC 40 (benchmark French stock market index) businesses, has operated in France since 1992. It made a major investment in France and Switzerland by acquiring local IT company TKS TTeknosoft for over €70 million and has announced that it has been chosen as the strategic IT development partner for France-based Europcar, the continent´s leading car rental company.
Tata Chemicals has also been chosen as India’s Most Admired Knowledge Enterprise (MAKE) for 2011 by a panel of India-based Fortune 500 senior executives and internationally recognized knowledge management/intellectual capital experts at the 6th Knowledge Summit. “Leveraging knowledge that is present within our organization to achieve higher levels of innovation in a collaborative manner is a strategic differentiator for us today. Awards like these give us the confidence that we are moving in the right direction.” says Tata Chemicals managing director, R Mukundan.
Yet another one of Tata Group’s companies, Tata Power, India’s largest integrated private power utility company, was given the Quality Award for 2011 by Labor Quality Services International (LQSi) in South Holland. Ashok Sethi, vice president of Mumbai operations of Tata Power gladly received the award saying “It reiterates our commitment towards quality management. We at Tata Power always endeavour to maintain the best quality standards across all our plants.”
With all of its accumulating accolades, it comes as no surprise that Tata Elxsi of Tata Group has been chosen as the recipient for the World Quality Commitment Award at the Business Initiative Directions’
