Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the UAE, holds about 9% of the world’s proven oil reserves. The Emirate has built its wealth—with one of the highest per-capita GDP’s in the world—largely upon the export of oil and natural gas. But the city proper, with a population of about 1.5 million in 2014, has been quickly and effectively diversifying its economy ever since the oil boom years in the 2000’s. In recent years, the economic contribution of other sectors has eclipsed the portion of the economy formed by the energy sector, and the massive growth in business is perfectly illustrated by the ever-rising skyscrapers across Abu Dhabi and the country.
Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification has taken place in multiple sectors. For one, the transport sector has grown explosively, especially in regards to the increase in traffic handled by Abu Dhabi International, and the Emirate’s flag carrier, Etihad Airlines. Government investment has also focused heavily on the industrial and petrochemical sectors as well, adding further levels of value creation and utilization methods of the Emirate’s abundant natural resources. But with such massive growth across multiple industries, and a domestic culture that emphasizes work in the public sector rather than the private sector, nearly all of the Abu Dhabi based businesses rely heavily on professionals and workers from other countries to operate. When new jobs are created, new migrants must be attracted.
This dynamic has resulted in Abu Dhabi hosting a diverse and multicultural society, with large populations of expatriates from around the world settling in the city. By far, the biggest of these communities is the Indian expatriate community, which composes roughly 30% of the UAE’s population, and most of them work in the financial, manufacturing, and transport industries, while a still-sizeable minority are engaged in professional services and entrepreneurship. With such a large, and still growing, population of Indians settling into the country, one of the most important aspects of Indian culture, education, is imported alongside them.
Emirates Future International Academy (EFIA), founded in 2008, is the leading Indian school in Abu Dhabi. Renowned for its excellence, receiving awards and recognitions from around the city and the country, this private academy provides instruction in all grade levels from kindergarten through 12th grade. In just the past 8 years, the school has grown from an inaugural student body of 869 students to over 2900 today. And with 170 teachers on staff, each student receives the individual attention and care they deserve. © 2016 David V. / Raul M.
Among EFIA most notable achievements is listed the book “67 Inspiring Stories”. The volume is a compilation of 67 exemplary tales of community service, charitable work and commitment towards the less favored in the United Arabs Emirates. Edited by Emirates Future International Academy, this book achieve international recognition, being awarded by the British Ambassador at that time in the UAE, Dominic Jermey.
Having moved from home, and living in a new country, the challenge for the students at EFIA is not a small one. The Academy, however, has made it central to its mission to provide the best possible environment for developing young minds to achieve self-actualization from a new perspective: that of a global citizen. This means that EFIA gives its students the opportunity to develop the skills and values needed to navigate life in the increasingly-globalized 21st century. At the Academy’s modern and extensive facilities—which include a library, auditorium, multiple science and computer labs specialized for each subject, an onsite medical staff, a canteen, and extensive sports and fitness facilities—students are encouraged to take a holistic approach to learning and expression in a competitive, safe, positive, and supportive environment.
EFIA’s unique perspective on education not only creates a better learning environment for its students, it has also been producing real, tangible results. EFIA has been among the very top programs in the Emirate by virtue of its scores on the annual exams administered by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Abu Dhabi, proving that the Academy’s holistic approach works not only to foment positive lifelong attitudes towards education, but in the teaching of key material as well.
Students are encouraged to take part in a number of extra-curricular activities and sports, and are even given control over their own clubs and groups, managing the day-to-day activities of their own organizations on their own. Inter-school competitions are an important part of the overall experience of attending EFIA, as is the participation in community-service oriented activities, including organizing blood drives, planting trees, donating schools supplies to underprivileged children, and raising money for the Red Crescent.
Under direction of the honorable founder and Chairman Dr. Francis Cleetus, the school is professionally managed by NTS Group, a diversified multinational holding company with interests the fields of education, real estate, recruiting, retail, and hospitality. NTS Group has applied its modern Quality Management methods to the management of EFIA as well, demonstrating the immense value that these principles have for organizations of any kind. Continuous training and professional development for teachers and administrators is an important part of why instruction at the school is of the highest quality, and the school’s dedication to the principle of education is passed down to its students as well.
For the service of the Academy to the UAE’s largest expatriate communities, for its excellence in instruction and its pristine, top of the line facilities, and for its integration of key Quality Management principles in the operation of the school and in the development of the students, Emirates Future International Academy from Abu Dhabi has been selected by Business Initiative Directions to receive the 2016 BID International Quality Award, which recognizes the very best examples of Quality and Excellence in organizations, public institutions, and private companies around the world.
