Nigeria is a land of warm and friendly people
CLEANING CREW LIMITED (CCL), located in Nigeria, shows what can be done when a company is committed to quality, service, safety and responsibility to the environment. CCL provides cleaning services in some of the most challenging environments around, and does so safely and reliably because of its dedication to proper employee training, investment in the best equipment, and a culture of customer service that has allowed it to partner with some of the most important industrial and commercial clients in the country. Perhaps they got their inspiration from the single-minded commitment of one of Nigeria’s most renowned citizens.
Nigeria’s Nobel Prize Winner Combines Literature with Political Activism
Wole Soyinka is a playwright and poet, and the only Nigerian to ever win a Nobel Prize. He was awarded the 1986 Nobel Prize in Literature, the first African to be honored in that category. Soyinka studied in Nigeria and the UK, and became famous for, among other things, producing works of literature critical of governments.
Political activism has always been important in Soyinka’s literature and, in fact, he dedicated his Nobel Prize to Nelson Mandela, who was still in a South African prison at the time. He formed an anti-corruption and justice-seeking student organisation while still in college. A significant number of the hundreds of published works attributed to him deal with the evils of repressive governments. As recently as 2015, he spent election day monitoring voting irregularities.
Nigeria’s most important writer has never been afraid of speaking truth to power. Soyinka’s play performed on the day in 1960 that Nigeria celebrated its sovereignty satirized the new government and argued that it was no better than the colonial ones. He was arrested for the first time in 1964 after resigning his professorship in protest of the government’s censorship. After the 1966 military coup he was arrested again and jailed for 22 months. In Soyinka’s mind, many of the strongmen who came to power were no better than their colonial oppressors, and he has been an untiring critic of "the oppressive boot and the irrelevance of the colour of the foot that wears it,” whether in Nigeria or other countries such as Zimbabwe or Uganda.
Given that he was not supposed to have access to books, pen or paper, it is remarkable that Soyinka managed to write some significant works while in prison. He was finally forced to make a harrowing escape from the country on a motorcycle, and ended up living in the United States and France. He has held teaching positions at universities in the United States, Nigeria, and Great Britain. He finally returned to Nigeria in 1999, avoiding a death sentence in absentia during the prior dictatorship.
Soyinka once famously said that “A tiger doesn't proclaim his tigritude, he pounces.”
The list of awards that Soyinka has received is long. In addition to the Nobel Prize, he has been given four honorary doctorates, six international book awards, and three international fellowships. He has even been made a Yoruba tribal aristocrat.
Wole Soyinka has won respect and accolades because he is driven by an unswerving commitment to do his best and be true to his beliefs; to follow his calling unconditionally no matter the obstacles and challenges. Nigeria is justifiably proud to have produced a man of such integrity and commitment. It is a characteristic of the Nigerian people.

Safety and Quality
While safety and quality are important in any business, for industrial cleaners, both are particularly critical. The price of failure is high, and at CCL, the commitment to safety and quality is ingrained in the corporate culture from the highest executive to every line worker who takes on the responsibility to do what can be difficult and hazardous in challenging environments. The health and safety of CCL employees, clients, contractors and the general public is paramount. So is respect for the environment. There is no service or job so urgent that it cannot be done safely, properly and responsibly.
Special mention should be made of the Stop Work Authority (SWA) possessed by every CCL employee. SWA is an innovative safety concept which empowers every person on the job to demand that work stop immediately if a safety issue is detected. Since employees must pass a rigorous training program which far exceeds minimum industry standards, SWA is an effective tool for keeping everyone safe and ensuring a quality job every time.
Quality control and safety are process based programs, meaning that there are specifications and procedures in place that are known to everyone and must be strictly followed. Safety and quality protocols include written area assessments, an established documented inspection system, quarterly reports, a frequency control system, monthly progress reports and ongoing training in techniques and services. These tools work hand in hand to create the best working environment possible and the highest standard of results every time.
