Mongolia, a landlocked, independent state of about 3 million people in East Asia, is one of the world’s most dynamic countries. Recent years have seen a onrush of international attention as Mongolia’s rich mineral deposits have become apparent around the world. The vast territory, dominated by its famous wide open grassy steppes, has been an independent democracy since 1990, and the country is about to hold its 7th elections since it ended its status as a Soviet satellite state. With a visit from United States Secretary of State John Kerry commemorating the occasion, Mongolia suddenly finds itself at the center of the world’s attention.

Much of Mongolia’s success as a nation comes down to its steady economic growth over the years. Bordered by the massive countries of China (to the south) and Russia (to the north), the country’s choice of trade partners has traditionally been limited. However, the advent of modern air transport has opened trade lines to more international markets, giving Mongolia opportunities to expand its sphere of influence around the region. Its extensive deposits of valuable resources like copper, coal, molybdenum, tin, tungsten, and gold have given its industrial sector a substantial boost, and lead to steady GDP growth in recent years.

The city of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia’s political, economic, and cultural capital, has been at the center of national development. Home to almost half of the country’s population, the city has grown quickly, and has necessitated the development of a robust construction and architectural industry to keep up with the demand for housing, schools, infrastructure, and more. One of the absolute best of the native, Mongolian companies working in this emergent sector is Altanduulga House.
